How to prepare Ghee from Butter
- Cut the butter into cubes and place in a large saucepan. Melt it over medium heat.
- Once butter is hot, reduce heat and keep on the lowest setting. Let butter simmer – do not stir!
- Within a short time, white foam will form on the surface of the butter. This is milk protein. This should now be skimmed off with a skimmer or spoon.
- Leave the butter on the stove for half an hour – always make sure that the fat does not get too hot. If necessary, skim off foam again in between.
- As soon as the butter is clear and no more steam rises, the ghee is ready. Remove the pot from the heat and let the mixture cool down a bit.
- Prepare a clean canning jar and pour the ghee through a very fine mesh strainer into the jar. That’s it!
